Life in the Lion King Room

The Lion King Room is the preschool room at Puzzlez Playschool in Chipping Ongar. Our oldest children are ready for bigger challenges, so we combine structured activities with plenty of playful, hands on learning.

Our aim is for children to leave us with a love of learning and the confidence to take their next big step with excitement.

What we focus on

Guided by the EYFS, here is where we put our energy in the Lion King Room.

Early phonics and literacy

Phonics (learning the sounds that letters make), storytelling and early writing, building strong foundations for reading and writing.

Mathematical thinking

Numbers, shapes and problem solving, made engaging through interactive, hands on activities.

Social and emotional readiness

Encouraging children to work together, do more for themselves and keep trying when something is difficult.

Physical development

Refining fine and gross motor skills, building self care habits and growing confidence in movement.

Creativity and critical thinking

Imaginative play, music and hands on discovery that encourage children to ask questions and test their own ideas.

Getting ready for school

The Lion King Room is designed to prepare children for a confident transition to school. Alongside early phonics and maths, children build independence, resilience, self care habits and the ability to work with others: the skills that help them settle when they start Reception.
